From 26 July 20β23 TOEFL iBT will no longer be offering English language tests for Australian visa purposes until further notice.
English language requirements are typically applicable for individuals seeking to study or work in Australia. To ascertain the English proficiency level and necessary evidence, consult the eligibility page corresponding to your intended visa subclass.

The Department of Home Affairs acknowledges scores from specific tests conducted at secure test centres to fulfil English language visa prerequisites. These include:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS), including the option of One Skill Retake (OSR)*.
- Pearson Test of English (PTE).
- Cambridge English (CAE), also known as C1 Advanced.
- Occupational English Test (OET), primarily designed for healthcare professionals.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT)^.
From 26 July 2023, TOEFL iBT will cease providing English language tests for Australian visa purposes until further notice.
Starting 14 December 2022, IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) becomes available for specific test takers, enabling the retaking of one of the four test components (reading, writing, speaking, or listening) once.
For Australian visa purposes, the Department will accept IELTS test results that include OSR, with the exception of applications for subclasses 476, 482, and 485, which need scores from a single sitting/attempt.
Online (βat-homeβ) English language tests
Some test providers offer alternative versions of their tests that you can take at home or online, such as TOEFL iBT β Special Home Edition, OET@Home, IELTS Indicator, and IELTS Online.β
Home Affairs does not accept scores from these tests, or any other ‘at-home’ or ‘online’ tests for Australian migration purposes.
