SkillSelect Invitation Round: 8 December 2022
The Department of Home Affairs of Australia held the latest invitation round for Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – Family Sponsored on 8th December 2022. This was one of the biggest SkillSelect invitation rounds with a massive 35,120 invitations sent. Out of these 35,120 Invitations to Apply, candidates received 35,000 alone towards Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa.
As compared to October’s round the invitations issued in December were much less for the Subclass 491 Family Sponsored stream.

Following are the main highlights of the Invitation Round:
- The DHA kept point-score requirements at a minimum of just 65 points. This means that the candidate must have at least 65 points to secure an invitation for both Skilled 189 visa and Subclass 491 in the December round and therefore the highest ranked individuals were invited for relevant visa;
- As mentioned earlier a number of 35,000 invitations were sent for Skilled Independent Visa Subclass 189 and 120 invitations for Skilled Work Regional Visa Subclass 491 making it one of the biggest ever;
- Only jobs listed on the Department of Home Affairs website (https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skillselect/invitation-rounds) were eligible for invitations in the December 2022 round. For instance, two common professions, Accountant (General) and Chemical Engineer, only required a minimum score of 85 to be invited.
