Australia’s new legislative instrument finally brings Parent visa lodgement into the digital age. Four subclasses go online from 22 April 2026 – but two still require a stamp and an envelope.

Online Lodgement is Now Available for Australian Parent Visa
A new legislative instrument takes effect on 22 April 2026, enabling online lodgement for the majority of Parent visa subclasses. This is not a policy change – it’s an administrative modernisation that removes the friction of posting physical documents and waiting on courier delays.
Which Visas are Affected in Australian Parent Visa Category?
The following visas can now be lodged online:
| Subclass AX Parent | Subclass BP Aged Parent |
| Subclass CA Contributory Parent | Subclass DG Contributory Aged Parent |
These visas are still paper based only:
| Subclass UT Contributory Parent (Temporary) | Subclass UU Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) |
Yes – in 2026, some applications still need to be posted. The two temporary subclasses remain paper-based under the new instrument.
What this means for applicants
- Faster processing pathways -no more waiting on postal delivery windows
- Fewer technical invalidity issues caused by missing or damaged paper documents
- Reduced costs – no courier or postage expenses for applicants
- One more step toward a fully digital Australian migration system
The Transitional Rule
There’s an important timing detail that catches applicants off guard. If you posted your application before 22 April 2026 but the Department received it after that date, the old instrument still applies to your case.
Note: Timing still matters
Posted before 22 April but received after? The previous rules govern your application – not the new instrument. When it comes to Parent visa lodgements, the details matter -and the stakes are high. Immigration Hotspot is here to make sure your application is lodged correctly, on the right instrument, at the right time. Our experienced migration professionals handle everything from strategy to submission, so you can focus on what truly matters: being closer to your family.
Final Thoughts
Four of the six Parent visa subclasses now support online lodgement, reducing friction and cost for most applicants. Two temporary subclasses remain paper-only for now. The policy settings – queue positions, costs, processing times haven’t changed. But the experience of lodging has gotten meaningfully better.
