Australia’s significant invest in Southeast Asia Engagement and Visa Reforms- FEDERAL BUDGET 2024/2025
The Australian Government’s commitment of $505.9 million over five years from 2023β24, along with ongoing funding of $118.3 million per year, reflects a significant effort to strengthen Australia’s engagement with Southeast Asia. This investment is aligned with the government’s long-term strategy outlined in ‘Invested: Australiaβs Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040’, focusing on economic cooperation and strategic partnerships in the region.
As part of this initiative, the government will allocate $1.1 million over two years to enhance visa access and facilitate long-validity business and frequent traveler visas for ASEAN member countries and Timor-Leste. These measures aim to facilitate greater movement of business professionals and frequent travelers, fostering closer economic and cultural ties between Australia and Southeast Asia. This strategic investment underscores Australia’s commitment to deepening its engagement with key regional partners and leveraging opportunities for mutual growth and development.
